All about Reed Diffusers

Reed diffusers have taken the aromatherapy and home fragrance market by storm. Still, as popular as they are, many people do not know how they work. Here we explain exactly how they work and we hope after reading this section you too will see the appeal of the reed diffuser.

Reed diffusers consist of three components. A glass container, a set of reed diffuser sticks or reeds and diffuser fragrance oil. Diffuser fragrance oil is added to the glass bottle. Depending on the size of the bottle you are using will determine how much diffuser oil you use. Next you insert the reed diffuser sticks into the fragrance inside the glass diffuser bottle and thats it. It doesn't get much easier than that to fragrance your home or office.

Most people use glass containers with there diffuser oils. The reason being is that some other substances such as plastics or metal may react with the fragrance oils. Plus as you can see from the photos on the photos page its easy to see why people prefer glassware. It looks so elegant when filled with diffuser oil and diffuser reeds.

The diffuser reeds or sticks look very similar to bamboo except the best performing diffuser reeds are made from rattan, a natural plant material. They contain many tiny channels or holes that travel the full length and these can be seen in the photo on the photos page. The most popular size for rattan reeds or diffuser reeds is 30cm, however you can cut them down smaller if using a very short glass as your diffuser glass. Each rattan stick contains about 20 individual channels inside. These run the entire length of the reed and draw or suck up the fragrance to help disperse it. Always purchase these types of quality rattan reeds and not solid rattan or bamboo reeds. They will not perfom as well. As a general rule 10 diffuser reeds will give a nice scent throw and the more reeds used the stronger the scetn throw.

When purchasing diffuser fragrance oils be sure to look for high quality oils. This will ensure long life and a pleasant smell. Avoid cheap oils that smell very chemically as these may also be harmful to smell. As a general rule about 40 mls of diffuser oil should last about a month. This does depend on several factors such as temperature, air-conditioning, airflow etc.

The great thing about diffuser reeds is that there is very little to do with them. The only maintenance needed is to flip the reeds over about once a week or as desired. You simply pull out the reeds and turn them over for a fresh fragrance burst.

Some points to note. You should not re-use the diffuser reeds when changing fragrances. Always get a fresh set of diffuser reeds as over time their ability to draw or suck up the fragrance diminshes. Also be sure to wash out your glass bottle before adding or changing scents to avoid cross contamination. Never light the diffuser reeds. They are not candles and work without flames. Also take care to position them where they cannot be knocked over easily.

I do hope this has explained the use of diffuser fragrance reeds and oils and how easy they are to fragrance your home or office. If your ready to purchase you can click on this link DIFFUSER REEDS and view our high quality products.
